I fully support this change, too much onus is currently placed on the referee to validate paddles. There will always be ways to avoid detection, but having this requirement will at least have a player think twice about playing with an illegal paddle.

This seems like a fair decision for both the referee and player. It calls upon the player to be responsible for their equipment by requiring the player to research their paddle prior to a tournament. No surprises! As a VT, this is one area I would be happy not to have on the list of things to do prior the the start of the match. Just make sense.
