USAP Rules Committee Vote Reason | Withdrawn because this affects on the Handbook. The suggestion was forwarded to Marsha Freso. |
Existing Rule # | 2.G.1 |
Proposed Rule Change | 2.G.1. Safety and Distraction. A player may be required to change apparel that is not customarily socially acceptable as reasonable court attire |
Original Rule Text | 2.G.1. Safety and Distraction. A player may be required to change apparel that is inappropriate, including that which approximates the color of the ball. |
Reasoning Behind Suggested Change | This adopts language that provides some additional guidance for Tournament Directors when trying to determine if attire is appropriate. This removes some of the subjectivity of the existing rule from one centered on the 'appropriateness' of the attire as determined by the TD to a focus on what is considered socially acceptable. In other words, it replaces a personal subjective decision with one that is based more on societal norms; i.e., what is 'normal and customary'.
