Reasoning Behind Suggested Change | In the long run pickleball will grow more popular among all categories of players, but how many people are playing singles? Not many that I know. I'm certain that the singles game would appeal to more players and spectators if the singles court were 3' narrower than the doubles court. As it is now, mostly just the young and very fit players can cover the 20' wide court playing singles. Rallies are short and not very exciting except for some of the pros or very top players. I'm 69 and in pretty good shape but singles is pretty much out of my league. Skinny singles is the next best thing but then the space is too narrow a target or space, and certainly not a good game for tournaments. What's the viewing audience for singles vs. doubles in tennis? I know a few of the top singles tennis players, none of the doubles players, as I'm sure is the case with most tennis fans. A singles surface area will make the game more attractive to both players and spectators. |
