Rule Submission TitleRule 7.E is not applicable to "standing" players only.
USAP Board VoteDisapproved
USAP Board Vote ReasonThe term 'standing' is well understood to denote players that are not using a wheelchair. Also, many of these rules may be adjusted to accommodate adaptive play.
Existing Rule #7.E
Proposed Rule Change

7.E. Failure of a standing player to return the ball before it bounces twice on the receiving player’s side of the net and failure of a player using a wheelchair to return a ball before it bounces three times.

Original Rule Text

7.E. Failure of a standing player to return the ball before it bounces twice on the receiving player’s side of the net and failure of a player using a wheelchair to return a ball before it bounces three times.

Reasoning Behind Suggested Change

The word "standing" should be removed from the original rule to allow for players lying on the court.

Scenarios In Which the Rules Applies

A player in the air or lying on the ground would still be subject to returning the ball before it bounced twice.
