Original Rule Text

2.F.1.a.3. If the violation is discovered after the scoresheet is returned to the tournament operations desk, the match results stand.

Reasoning Behind Suggested Change

If a paddle is found to violate any paddle specifications after the scoresheet has been signed, both teams have agreed to the match results fand therefore the score and match result is final. In tournament play, the scoresheet is signed by the players, then it is walked to the tournament operations desk... in some cases the walk to the tournament desk could take 5 minutes while others could take 30 seconds. If in the action of taking the scoresheet to the tournament desk, a player identifies a paddle is in violation, there should be no opportunity to change the outcome of the match after the players have signed and agreed to the scoresheet. There should be no variance in time allowed after a match is complete to figure out a players paddle is in violation. Once both teams sign the scoresheet, the match is final.

Scenarios In Which the Rules Applies

In any USAP sanctioned tournament or non-sanctioned tournament using the USAP rules. Once the scoresheet is signed by the team and the referee or losing team takes the scoresheet to the tournament desk, at no point during the time it takes the referee or losing team to drop of the scoresheet should there be an opportunity to change the match results after both teams signed the scoresheet.
