Proposed Rule Change

Players may use assistive devices such as prosthetics, orthotics, braces, crutches, or canes during play.

  • Devices may not be used to strike the ball or intentionally alter its path.
  • If a device becomes dislodged during play, the point continues unless there is a safety concern or interference, in which case a replay or stoppage may be called at the referee’s discretion.
Original Rule Text

No existing rules addressing assistive devices use in standing divisions.

Reasoning Behind Suggested Change

Allowing assistive devices provides necessary accommodations for players with disabilities to compete effectively and safely while maintaining fair play principles. This rule balances inclusivity with game integrity.

Scenarios In Which the Rules Applies

Applies to all Adaptive Standing Division matches and any play involving assistive devices during sanctioned USA Pickleball events.
