Proposed Rule Change (edited)

2026 Rule:

4.B Winning the Game. The first singles player or doubles team to score the winning point wins the game.

Proposed Rule Change

12.B.1.c Scoring the Game-Winning Point.

The game-winning point can only be scored by the serving player or team. When a player or team is at game point and the opponent serves and loses the rally, it is a side out and no point is awarded. Technical foul exception noted.

Original Rule Text

12.B.1.c Scoring the Game-Winning Point.

The game-winning point can only be scored by the serving player or team. When a player or team is at game point and the opponent serves and loses the rally, it is a side out and no point is awarded.

Reasoning Behind Suggested Change

It is possible that the player or team at game point could win the game while the opposing team is serving.

Scenarios In Which the Rules Applies

Score is 10-11-1. After a very exciting rally, player A1 misses an easy overhead winner and lets out an extremely objectionable obsenity.

Referee correctly calls a TF on A1. Point, game 11-9.
