| Proposed Rule Change (edited) | 2026 Rule: 10.D Double Hit. Balls can be hit more than once, but the stroke must be continuous in a single-direction by one player. 10.D.1 Fault – Double Hit. When a player hits a ball more than once using a stroke that is not in a continuous and in a single direction, it is a fault against the player. 10.D.2 Fault – Two-Player Hit. When a player and their partner both hit a ball to return it, it is a fault against the players. |
| Proposed Rule Change | 11.A. Double Hits. Balls can be hit more than once |
| Original Rule Text | 11.A. Double Hits. Balls can be hit twice, but this must occur during a continuous, single-direction stroke by one player. If the stroke made while performing the serve or during a rally is not continuous, or not in a single direction, or the ball is struck by a second player, it is a fault. |
| Reasoning Behind Suggested Change | The intent of the rule is to provide an exception to the ball being hit by the paddle only once. If the paddle hitting the ball twice in a continuous, single-direction stroke is legal, then hitting the ball a third time, while perhaps rare, should also be allowed if it is truly a continuous, single-direction stroke. The rule should not be arbitrarily limited. Saying "more than once" more propoerly captures the intent of the rule. |
| Scenarios In Which the Rules Applies | Multiple hits during a rally. |
