Proposed Rule Change
4.B.8. Before the score is called, players may ask the referee for the score, correct server, correct receiver, and correct positioning.
Original Rule Text
4.B.8. Before the serve occurs, the serving team may ask the referee for the score, correct server, correct position, and may challenge/confirm the called score. Any player on the serving team may ask any one or more of these questions.
Reasoning Behind Suggested Change
Players are able to disrupt the game flow and gain additional time to serve by asking questions after the score is called, resulting in the 10-second clock being reset (procedural issue). In an effort for less disruption of the game flow, rules 4.B.8 and 4.B.8 should be revised to require players to ask questions about the correct server, correct receiver, correct positions and the score before the score is called. Between the score being called and the serve occurring, players may still ask the questions but the 10-second clock will only reset if a score correction is required (procedure to be addressed in the Officiating Handbook).
