Existing Rule #11.H
Proposed Rule Change

11.H. Items on the Court. If any item a player is/was wearing or carrying lands on their side of the court, unless the item lands in the non-volley zone as a result of a volley, the ball remains in play even if it hits the item.  Any item a player was wearing or carrying that is struck by a ball in play prior to the item landing on the court shall result in a fault per rule 7.H.

Original Rule Text

11.H. Items on the Court. If any item a player is/was wearing or carrying lands on their side of the court, unless the item lands in the non-volley zone as a result of a volley, the ball remains in play even if it hits the item.

Reasoning Behind Suggested Change

There is nothing in the rules that covers items a player was wearing or carrying that are hit by a ball before the item lands on the court.  I propose adding the last sentence to rule 11.H to cover this possibility.

USAP Rules Committee notes: Suggest a casebook entry to cover this possibility.
