Reasoning Behind Suggested Change | Suggestion: Combine 4B8 and 4B9 for simplicity and add wording to encompass teams asking questions about the opponent's conditions. Overview: During the past months, on social media and on the courts, situations have arisen whereby a team asks a correct player/position question about their opponents. Currently 4B8 and 4B9 state that the serving team and receiving team respectively may ask questions concerning only their team. Given that it is not recommended that a team ask questions about the opponents (thereby giving away a possible upcoming fault) it is not clear in the two rules if such questions are allowed or should be answered by the referee. Some players feel it is "good sportsmanship" to help the opponents in this manner. In summation, if a player wants to ask about an opponent's condition, the referee should comply as normal. Goal: Combine the two rules for simplicity and allow any player to ask any question of the referee. |
