Agree that detecting it when player has smart watch can be challenging, and now ear buds can be also hearing aids. But do not recommend changing current rules - players should not be allowed to wear ear buds (anything except valid hearing aids) during competition makes sense.

| 2220 | June 15, 2025 | Marsha | It is not reasonable to expect all referees to keep up with all the rapid advances in technology that could potentially be used by players to receive coaching during matches. The variety and sophistication of today's electronic devices -- many of which are small, discreet, and multi-functional -- make identification of prohibited equipment virtually impossible without the implementation of a highly advanced screening process. Such a process would be cost-prohibitive and logistically burdensome, slowing down operations and placing unreasonable demands on officials and staff. As such, rule 11.P cannot be effectively enforced.
