SUGGESTED USA PICKLEBALL RULE CHANGES FOR 2024
Rule Submission Title | Receiver partner position restriction |
---|---|
Existing Rule # | 4.B.7. |
Proposed Rule Change | 4.B.7. Partner Positions. In doubles, with the exception of the server (see 4.A.4) and the receiver’s partner there is no restriction on the position of any player, as long as all players are on their respective team’s side of the net. They can be positioned on or off the court. The correct server must serve from the correct service court, and the correct receiver must receive the serve. The receiver’s partner is restricted from blocking the server's view of any portion of the receiving court and must move if requested by the server. |

Reasoning Behind Suggested Change | (1) When the receiver’s partner blocks the server’s view of a portion of the receiving court it can significantly interfere with the concentration of the server. Interfering with a player’s concentration when about to strike the ball is one of the elements of the definition of a distraction. (2) If a server wishes to aim at a certain area or a certain spot within the receiving court, the server should be allowed to see that area or spot. |
