| Reasoning Behind Suggested Change | A width of 7 feet past the sideline has proven to be insufficient space for all pro matches, as well as for many amateur matches. The reality is that when a ball is hit at a sharp angle a player cannot get to the ball not because they lack speed or athleticism, but simply because there is no space for them to go wide and meet the ball before it bounces outside of the marked court. The standard recommendation width needs to be updated to reflect what has been observed in actual tournament play. |
