Rule Submission TitleBall contacts net support system
Existing Rule #13.B.1
Proposed Rule Change

13.B.1 Fault – Ball Contacts Net Support System When a player serves a ball that contacts the horizontal bar, center base or other support structuresnet support system on either side of the net or returns a ball that then contacts the horizontal bar, center base or other support structuresnet support system before going over the net, it is a fault on that player.

Original Rule Text

13.B.1 Fault – Ball Contacts Net Support System. When a player serves a ball that contacts the net support system on either end of the net or returns a ball that contacts the net support system before going over the net, it is a fault against the player.

Reasoning Behind Suggested Change

Since “net support system” is not defined it would be very easy for a player to contend that the cord holding up the net, literally a net support, would satisfy the present rule. Why not specify the only parts of the net support system that exist on court? Also, changes “end of the net” to “side of the net’ as proposed in USAP rule change proposal 2564.

Scenarios In Which the Rules Applies

Self-explanatory, I think.
