Original Rule Text

3.A.42. Starting Server – For each doubles team, the player designated to serve first at the start of the game. In doubles tournament play, the starting server shall wear a visible form of identification determined by the Tournament Director.

Reasoning Behind Suggested Change

As referees, we are required to quickly locate the starting server identification before each rally. In addition, players are allowed to change which partner wears the starting server identification before each game without notifying the referee. Thin bands and bland colors are very difficult to quickly locate--especially when players wear watches, colored bracelets, colored gloves and long sleeves. The 2023 Huntsman Senior Games tournament provided 3-inch mustard yellow bands which were easily visible.
