Existing Rule #11.L.5.b
Proposed Rule Change

Except on the serve, a replay will occur if the ball goes over the net and:

- hits the center base

- hits any part of the horizontal bar

- the ball gets caught between the net and horizontal bar

- hits a deflecting net

- hits a draping net on the ground

Except in the serve, if the ball goes over the net, bounces in the court, and then performs any of the above listed actions, a replay shall occur.

Reasoning Behind Suggested Change

The current rule that dictates a replay when a ball goes over the net then rolls down the net and hits the cross bar or footing of the center support post, I would like to see that changed to just play on, no replay. Countless times I have seen that happen and not once do I think the other team had any chance to make a play on the ball. Why should the hitting side be penalized by having to do a “replay” when the receiving side had NO play on the ball?

The hitting side is being penalized by having to do a redo when they hit a winning shot. At least a shot that would have been a winner 99.9% of the time.

Scenarios In Which the Rules Applies

Scenario? During play when a temporary net is being used or if a permanent net is draping on the ground.
