Rule Submission TitleLines denoting Serving area
Existing Rule #2.b.4
Proposed Rule Change

2.B.4. Service Court. The area beyond the NVZ on either side of the centerline, including the centerline, sideline, and baseline.

The service area shall be denoted by having a six inch long, 2 inch wide extension of the centerline and sideline. This extension shall be connected to the court lines.

Original Rule Text

2.B.4. Service Court. The area beyond the NVZ on either side of the centerline, including the centerline, sideline, and baseline.

Reasoning Behind Suggested Change

It is difficult to tell if the server is beyond the center line when observing from the referee position. Plus it is ambiguous from the current wording that you have to be inside or on those lines to serve.

Scenarios In Which the Rules Applies

On dedicated pickleball courts, it is difficult to determine whether a player’s foot is on or over the centerline or the sideline when they contact the serve because of the angle a referee is viewing the action.
