SUGGESTED USA PICKLEBALL RULE CHANGES FOR 2025

Rule Submission TitleUnnecessary Roughness
Existing Rule #None
Proposed Rule Change

Hitting an opponent in the face with the ball. The first offense should result in a side-out and point for your opponent. Second offense in the same game, automatic forfeit/loss of the game; opponents win. Until there are consequences for "unnecessary roughness", some players will continue to be court bullies. Slamming a ball into an opponent's face can cause serious injury, unconsciousness and even death resulting from striking their heads on a cement court. All sports have "unnecessary roughness" rules. It's time for pickleball to address this issue for the health and safety of all players.
