Proposed Rule Change

11.H. Items on the Court. If any item a player is/was wearing or
carrying (including a spare ball) lands on their side of the court, unless the item
lands in the non-volley zone as a result of a volley, the ball
remains in play even if it hits the item.

Proposed Rule Change (edited)

11.H. Items on the Court. If any item a player is/was wearing or carrying (including a spare ball) lands on their side of the court, unless the item lands in the non-volley zone as a result of a volley, the RALLY remains LIVE even if THE BALL hits the item.

Reasoning Behind Suggested Change

I raised the question on "Ask the Refs" forum of what happens if a spare ball falls out of a player's pocket during a rally.  I got a variety of answers from esteemed refs, which makes me think some clarification would be helpful.

Scenarios In Which the Rules Applies

A rally is often stopped by players for a ball on the court for safety reasons not treated as an 11.H issue.
