Rule Submission Title | Easily Visible Starting Server Identification |
---|---|
USAP Board Vote | Failure Confirmed |
USAP Rules Committee Vote | Failed |
USAP Rules Committee Vote Reason | The term 'easily visible' is subjective and very difficult to enforce or be consistent across matches. |
Existing Rule # | 3.A.40 |
Proposed Rule Change | 3.A.40. Starting Server – For each doubles team, the player designated to serve first at the start of the game. In doubles tournament play, the starting server shall wear a visible form of identification determined by the Tournament Director. The identification must be easily visible to the referee and the opponents. |
Original Rule Text | 3.A.40. Starting Server – For each doubles team, the player designated to serve first at the start of the game. In doubles tournament play, the starting server shall wear a visible form of identification determined by the Tournament Director. |
Reasoning Behind Suggested Change | On Referee conference calls there has been lengthy discussions regarding the color and placement of wristbands (e.g. can a player wear a black wristband intertwined into the black laces of a black shoe). While the band is technically visible it is not ‘easily’ or ‘clearly’ visible to a referee at a quick glance or by the opponents at the opposite baseline. This clarification should eliminate further confusion or discussion on this. |
